Orinoco Crocodile
Up to 5–7 m — one of the largest crocodilians in the Americas. Critically endangered with only ~250 left in the wild. Endemic to the Orinoco basin.
Apex predator that historically caused many human deaths. Population now too small to be a frequent threat, but each remaining adult is extremely dangerous to those entering its territory.
Endemic to the Orinoco River basin in Venezuela and eastern Colombia. Slow, muddy stretches of the main river and tributaries.
Solitary, ambush predator. Hunts capybara, fish, deer. Nests in sandy riverbanks during dry season.
